The Innovation and Creativity Initiative at Brigham Young University

The Creativity Center will be directed by an Advisory Board of world wide leaders in the field and key individuals interested in promoting creativity. The Board will provide long range strategic direction to the Creativity Center and ensure that Center leadership is appropriate. The Board is also responsible for Center resources. Center operations will be directly supervised by a Coordinating Council consisting of the Center Director and representatives from each of the participating colleges at BYU. This Council will establish goals and operational procedures and approve funding of the various creative activities sponsored by the Center. A Blue Ribbon Panel will be formed consisting of world-renowned experts in creativity. From time to time this Panel will interact with the Advisory Board and with the Coordinating Council to improve the overall vision and implementation of the Creativity Center and enhance its effectiveness and reputation.

Vision

The creativity center is a unique interdisciplinary center where students, faculty, and corporate partners engage in the study, development, and practice of creativity. We believe that creativity is both creative thinking and creative skills that when encompassed within a creative life style will lead to greater productivity and joy.

  • Students from across campus will benefit from classes in creativity and other creative activities, such as a creativity lab, which will teach both creative skills and creative thinking. These classes and activities will also demonstrate how to develop a more creative life style.
  • Faculty from any discipline can interact with other faculty and students to deepen their creativity within their discipline and broaden their creativity from these diverse interactions.
  • Individuals and organizations outside BYU can improve their creativity through the various center outreach programs.
